Christmas Cheer

Oh what a fun time of year!

I am all done with shopping with the exception of sending Poinsettias to my Aunt and two Grandmas.

We went to my MIL’s Christmas concert for her church choir last week.

It was really good!  It’s a gigantic church so it was a full on show with an intermission and everything.

Remember that Christmas when we saw the Nutcracker?  When Justin learned that ballets have no singing or talking.

Gabe, in the middle, is 18 months of pure energy!  My sister basically trapped him in that pose by linking his arms with the older boys.  He kept us laughing (and sweating) the whole time.  I can’t imagine what next year will be like with TWO around that age!

I am giving them as gifts with essential oils. You use them in place of dryer sheets.  I haven’t tried them yet, but from my research, you throw 4 or 5 in the dryer with your laundry and they fluff and cut down on drying time.  Plus, they smell good after you put several drops of essential oils on them!

In case you are new around here, we own and run a group home for individuals with developmental disabilities and during the day they go to an adult day habilitation center.  So as a Thank You, each person that works there received a jar of candy along with a poem I wrote.

And I am still making these!

I volunteered

with Girls on the Run this past weekend.

I wasn’t sure who all was going to show up at Athleta for gift wrapping and to my surprise, it was only girls from the Girls on Track team that I helped coach last Spring!  It was so good to see the girls and catch up with the coaches!

Words on Words

Warning: This post is wordy and Christmasy.

I am loving my new morning routine.

It’s all the things I have been wanting to do the in morning so it’s easy to put my book down knowing it’s time to journal and blog.

It’s also helping to keep my blog time down knowing that I want to have time to stretch and meditate.  If I don’t finish my post in that 30 minutes, it’s okay, I can always go back to it after our clients leave (or 2 days later like this post!) but it keeps me from spending 45 minutes in PicMonkey editing/designing a picture.

Journaling

I have kept journals at different phases in life but mostly during difficult times.  I don’t want to look back on my journals and read only negativity or struggle.  It’s been nice this week to write a little each day about how I feel and what I am grateful for.

I also have been reading about “dumping” on your spouse and how journaling can be a way of stopping this behavior.  If I want to, I can go many days without talking to anyone but Justin.  So that means he has to listen to ALL. my. thoughts.  You can imagine how exhausting that can be.

I was reading about the more I “dump” on him, the more he wants to fix everything and that starts to wear on both people.  It will create a feeling of dread.  Every time he sees me, he will gear up for a problem he is going to have to solve and he will start to dread that.

I am not saying that I will stop sharing with Justin on the daily but I have a lot going on in my brain and get exhausted with myself, so it can be a lot to live with if I am constantly sharing.

Writing in a journal helps me get everything out of my head since most things aren’t actually problems I need solved, they are just random thoughts or worries or complaints that the next day, or an hour later, don’t mean anything.

When we go in to social settings Justin will remind me, “You don’t have to say everything that comes to mind.”  I need to apply that to my marriage as well.

While we are here……Do you guys have pre-social pep talks with your spouses?  Justin and I both get a little anxiety in social settings and they surface differently for each us.  I get brutally honest with people and say whatever comes to mind and Justin drinks.   So we have little reminders that we give each other before getting out of the car to relax and not let our anxiety make us say or do things we are going to have to apologize for later.

Sometimes it works.

I am sharing them but keep in mind that I make these specifically for me so they include a place for me to track diet, exercise and my monthly cycle.  So if you also track those things, then this is the planner for YOU!

I print mine double sided so the dates are on the outer margin.  I print all the daily pages and insert them in the back of my ARC planner.  Then each day, I remove one from the back and pop it into place on top of my weekly sheet.  I fold it in half so it lays like shown above and below.  That way I can see my week and day all together.

I still need to design Monthly pages and a couple other pages I want to use throughout the year.  So stay turned.

Exercise

We finally went to Crossfit yesterday! HOORAY!  We could feel that we hadn’t been in a week and a half.  Justin thought he was going to puke and I thought I was going to poop my pants so it was a good a workout.

Day 3 of December

Yesterday I received a pair of grey boots that were supposed to be over-the-knee and they were not.

I know, that’s the same picture from the first night we ate it but I swear it felt like the same amount.

I have lost ZERO pounds this month.  I was supposed to lose 5. We are going to Cancun in February so we have a plan and a chart.

According to my chart.  I should have lost five pounds.

As I stared at the scale this morning, I thought DAMMIT PHO!  Of course, it could also be that I have only exercised like five times this month.

Yesterday

I was feeling like my days are getting away from me.  I make a to do list, but don’t do it.  Or if I do, I am obsessive about it and cranky if Justin talks about anything else besides the to-do list.  The longer my to do list gets the more I want to take a nap.

I have to get control over this.  After all, I am my own boss.  I have complete control over my day for the most part.

Get it together!

When one of our clients is having a hard time and I feel lost on what to do, I take pen to paper.

  1. What are the goals?  What do I want to have happen?
  2. What I know to be true or what is actually happening.
  3. What needs to change or who needs to change in order to get to the goal?

So, I applied this to myself yesterday morning.

Writing it all out makes me break down the issues into parts.  And the more I write, the clearer the action steps become.

As soon as I wrote the words “set up a time schedule” I though A-HA that’s it and back up to the top of the page I went.

This is not a new thing for me. I mean, the tag line for my blog is “running from sugar, CHASING BALANCE, living everyday grateful”.

It comes up often.  I love to do so many things, how can I fit them all in and not drive Justin crazy?

I have the most energy first thing in the morning.  The second my feet hit the floor…..

It’s on!

And some days I do everything the way I want and my day flows smoothly, but most days I drink coffee and play Facebook games for two hours and then run around hysterical, sweaty and frantic trying get the four things I REALLY needed to get done in 5 minutes before I get our clients up.

Also, sometimes I spend so much time on my to-do list that I run out of time to actually DO any of it.  Sometimes making the to-do list is the most fun part because I use different color pens and maybe some stickers.  Basically I just want to color but since I am a grown up I call it my to-do list.

Any who….

I did the above brainstorming and came up with a new morning routine since those are the two hours that I have no outside interference.  Those two hours set me up for my whole day.

I downloaded the book, “The Happiness Project” and even started reading it.  I felt very accomplished and advised Justin on my plan and that things were going to run much smoother now that I had a plan.

This morning I woke up at 6am instead of 5am.

Soooooo an hour late.  DAMMIT PHO!

In other news from yesterday

we had to replace a $300 headlight. #areyoufreakingkiddingme

Of course, I was ready to just trade it in and buy a new car but Justin reminded me that we haven’t had to change a headlight in seven years and that maintenance has to be done on cars.

Change a headlight? Isn’t that car maintenance from the 70’s?

I think the guy saw who he was dealing with so he gave me two free car washes and some candy bars along with my bill.

Big Bowl Pho

Yesterday we got our routine back!

After doing our morning thang, we hopped in the car for Crossfit.

And we almost made it.

We were just one right turn away.

And we made a U-turn and headed home.

Just. Not. Feelin’. It.

Some times you need a rest day after your rest days.

Back at home, I ate some oats with eggs and turkey sausage.

Then headed out for some shopping.

First stop was Staples as I needed supplies to get going on my 2015 Planner.  I will be printing that today!

Next up was White House Black Market.  I went there only to try on a pair of pants so I could order them online at their sale price.  I swear those ladies at WHBM can talk me into buying anything!  They didn’t have the pants I was looking for so I tried on something similar but when we went online, the pair I wanted was sold out.

Don’t feel sorry for me though, I didn’t walk out empty handed and they honored the same online sale!

I am still seeing my Chiropractor three times a week to get my whip-lash issue healed back up.  I could tell I hadn’t been adjusted in a week.  I felt so much better when I left his office.

Back at home, I fixed myself a big fat salad.  Filled with spinach, green leaf lettuce, red bell pepper, red onion, black olives, turkey, pepperoni and Newman’s Own Oil & Vinegar.

I wrapped up my day

with 90 minutes of YOGA.  It was sweaty and glorious.

On my way home, I picked up some Pho for Justin and I from Big Bowl Pho.

We tucked in to our warm, cozy home for the night, ate soup and went to bed early.
