Coffee Drama

Yesterday started with realizing our Keurig needed to be descaled at 5:15am?! What the Whaaaat?!  Evidently, every 3-6 months we should be running distilled vinegar through the coffee maker.

Okey Dokey.

I was so tired yesterday morning (must be why I woke up an hour later than normal) I could hardly see straight.   All I could see was the Keurig, very slowly, spitting a very concentrated fluid into my coffee cup. Bummer.  I definitely was not operating at the level of reading the manual and taking care of the coffee problem. Off I went to Pilates with no caffeine.

It was a great class that incorporated cardio and light weights in addition to the Xerciser.  The instructor really zeroed in our hips and mine are screaming at me today. Mission accomplished.

On the way home, I cruised through the Caribou Coffee drive thru.  I needed some coffee stat and I knew I would not have the Keurig going by the time Justin woke up either!  Two large coffees, please.

Once home and sufficiently caffeinated, I was ready for breakfast:  Chobani honey yogurt, Udi’s gluten free granola and a peach.

It’s blazin’ hot in Kansas City right now and I’m not complaining.  I’m thankful that we have air conditioning, but I’m not complaining!  I love summer.  I love the heat and the sunshine and clear skies.  I should have a blow up pool by now, but sadly I do not.  I need to do something about that.

I headed outside yesterday afternoon, to play with the dogs.

After soaking up some heat and sunshine, I headed back inside and fixed some lunch.

I made brown rice noodles with chicken sausage, stir fried veggies and one can of 98% fat free broccoli cheese soup.

It was so good, I ate it for dinner too!

That was my exciting day!

Shopping

Yesterday was supposed to start with Title Boxing and I’m not sure how it happened but I talked myself out of it.  I think I started online window shopping or woke up late. Honestly, I don’t remember, what I do remember is that I did not go.

I started the day with a couple of Kashi Trail Mix cookies.

After getting everyone up and out of here for the day, I started going through my closet and trying on clothes.  Anything that I hadn’t worn in a while or didn’t fit, I threw in a box for good will.

Meal #2 was my favorite….Chobani honey yogurt with Udi’s gluten free granola and a peach.

It looks like I mutilated that peach trying to get it in the bowl, but it sure tasted good!

I started doing some online browsing for sales and clothes.  I was wanting some new dresses and shorts.

Around lunch time, we remembered it was TACO TUESDAY!  After eating at our favorite taco place, I dropped Justin at home and headed to Dillard’s. They were having a 65% off sale and I got some great stuff.  I love the brand Nurture but rarely buy anything because of the price.  I got several pieces yesterday!  I also grabbed some shorts at J. Jill.

Back at home, I was starving.  I warmed up a turkey burger and some left over brussel sprouts.

Neither of us were very hungry for dinner, so we settled on some Brinner! Two eggs and two slices of gluten free toast with butter.

Dessert was a Julie’s orange bar.

We settled in for the night and watched Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef.

Starts with a P

A few things I love about yesterday, start with the letter P.

Pilates. Popcorn. Peaches.

Wow. Don’t you want to keep reading? ha!

Yesterday started with a 6am Pilates class.  It was led by a new-to-me instructor and she was awesome.  She advised that she is known as the “hard” instructor and she was not lying.  She really made sure my form was perfect and that I took each movement slow and held the move where it counts.  I was really feeling it!

Back at home, I leashed up the girls and took them for a walk. It has really heated up in Kansas City so they are not spending much time outside.  We went for an extra long walk before it got too steamy.

A cold breakfast was on my mind and PEACHES. Man, I love peaches!

A few hours later, it was time to eat again.  Two slices of gluten free toast with butter and two runny eggs sounded good.

What’s good to eat right before you go to the dentist…..EGGS!  I made sure and brushed extra long before heading out to my appointment.

We love our dentist office.  Everyone is so nice and remembers everything that is going in our life.  They really make me feel special when I walk in the door.

After getting my teeth all shiny, I grabbed Justin from home and we went to lunch.  I forgot to take a picture, but we both ordered sandwiches with french fries and then shared the sandwiches. I ordered an italian-style sandwich and Justin ordered a turkey-brie-blackberry jam sandwich. OH MY, his stole the show!

We hit up the grocery store for a couple of things and then headed home where we did nothing for the rest of the day.

Pilates and a Party

Hi guys!

How was everyone’s weekend?  We had a great weekend!

I started my Saturday with an 8am Pilates class. It was wonderful. I am really enjoying these classes. (Whoa…looks like the mirror in the spare bedroom needs to be cleaned!)

They are so hard for me right now as my body tries to figure out what muscles to use and when!

I raced home because Justin was waiting on me so he could leave to play golf with his dad and Stepbrothers (if you are a new reader…we have a group home..we have three people that live with us and require 24 hour care so someone always has to be here).

I should have spent the day cleaning house, but instead I read and at some point made turkey burgers and roasted brussel sprouts.

Saturday evening, after our sitter arrived, we headed over to Justin’s Dad’s house for a surprise 30th Birthday Party for one of his Stepbrothers.

I failed at taking pictures, but I did manage to get one. I’m not even sure what he is doing in this picture?  Cutting his own piece of cake?  Clearly it was picture worthy, though, because everyone was capturing the moment!

We were both pretty beat and by 10:30pm were home and in our jammies!

Sunday was completely uneventful.  We relaxed all day!

Water Park Fun

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!

I have been up since 6am waiting patiently for it to be 8am, which is when I will be sitting in a Pilates class.

In the mean time, I am enjoying some coffee and staring at Facebook.

Yesterday was a Fun day!

I started the day off at Title Boxing.

It was pretty fantastic, as usual.

Back at home, I fixed myself a yogurt bowl.  I picked up these Kashi Trail Mix cookies the other day, when I took my nephew to the pool.

They are so good and taste very similar to those Godwin bars I make.  Although, they are not gluten free, so they will just be an “every once in a while” treat.  I need to make some Godwin bars.  Anyway, I crumbled two of those along with Chobani plan yogurt and a peach.

Meal #2 was egg whites with Canadian bacon and some cantaloupe.

After a trip to the grocery store, it was time to meet my friend and her little girl at the water park!  We had so much fun!

And Aspen was too!  She is, my friend, Sarah’s daughter who I have been friends with since we were 15 years old!  I love spending time with those two.

I was supposed to get my hair cut at 7:30pm and I was so tired and cranky I was struggling to keep myself awake until then.  My stylist texted and said she was running late and asked if I could come at 7:45pm.  Nope. That 15 minutes sent me over the edge! ha!  It was only 15 minutes later, but I was so tired and already dreading that late of an appointment that it just seemed SO late.  I rescheduled, got in my jammies and snuggled in bed to watch some TV for the night.

It’s time to get ready for Pilates! Hope everyone has a FAB-U-LOUS SATURDAY!

Corn and Crabs

Corn does not belong in salads.

Yesterday, we stopped for lunch while out running errands. I ordered 1/2 a BLT and a house salad and when the waiter set my salad down and it had corn all over it, Justin said….”Oh Man”.

Ha!  He knows me.

I suffered through it, but GAH! I do not like corn on salads!  In fact, I don’t like corn in anything. It should be eaten off the cob with butter, salt and pepper. The End.

After waking up later than usual, and missing the 6am Pilates class, I made it to the 10:45am class and was the only student.  It was pretty nice getting one on one training!  She put me through a full body workout and it was Tough.

After running our errands, eating lunch and taking a nap, we headed over to Justin’s Dad’s.  Justin’s stepbrother and his wife are in town with their new baby Lucca!  He is a doll.  They dropped him off at Justin’s stepsister’s house and then we all went to one of the local casinos for crab leg night.

Justin and Austin are crab leg professionals, and put down more than one plate. I, on the other hand, am not.  I like crab legs, but after two clusters, I was ready for something that wasn’t messy and didn’t make me work so hard to eat it!  In other words, dessert.  It was a fun night!

Pilates = Sore

Running.  Lifting weights. Title Boxing. These are the things my body knows.  Stick me in a ballet class or yoga or, in this case, Pilates and I’m so sore it makes me mad when I have to move!

I totally overslept this morning and missed the 6am Pilates class.  My body must have needed the rest.  I plan on going to a later one this morning, but I was so bummed when the clock said 5:45am instead of 4am!

I am so SORE!  Every muscle. Sore.

Yesterday was another story though.

I started the day with Title Boxing and then spent the afternoon at the pool with my nephew and some girlfriends along with their kids.

Pilates

Monday evening I went to an intro session at im=x Pilates.

You all know me by now, I love trying to new things.  The adult ballet class I was enrolled in is no longer a class. Sad smile  I have been feeling the need to do something different with my body.  I run, lift weights and take Title Boxing.  All those types of exercise are high impact and heavy on my joints and body in general.

The introduction session was myself and the owner and she started off with showing me around the studio (after I filled out the appropriate medical information).  It is a beautiful and intimate place. The classes are very small. They don’t like having more than eight people in class at a time so everyone can get the attention they need.

I have only taken mat Pilates at the Y, so I had never been on a reformer. This studio doesn’t use an actual reformer.  They developed their own called the Xerciser.

After the tour of the studio, she talked about the history of Pilates and the training their instructors go through and then it was time to go through some of the basic exercises on the Xerciser.

It was wonderful. What a great way to do an introduction to the studio. I really enjoyed the one on one with Debbie and feel like what she taught me prepared me to go into a class feeling prepared and not like a completely lost newbie.

I signed up for 3 months as they have a special running for new enrollees.

I took my first class yesterday morning at 6am. It was challenging and glorious.  I can tell it is going to confuse my muscles in the same way as ballet or yoga.  It’s that type of workout that is hard while you are doing it but somehow by the end you feel relaxed and refreshed!

I am hoping to settle into a nice routine of Title Boxing three times per week, Pilates three times per week along with running and weights.  I am thinking weights will be on Title Boxing days and running will be on Pilates days.

Clearly, two very different types of workouts!  I am hoping to completely confuse my muscles and send the fat screaming!

Getting Humid

Yesterday was spent finishing up a baby blanket.

It turned out so stinkin’ cute.  I finished it off by bordering it with the bright blue color. Unfortunately, after I washed and dried it, I promptly wrapped it, so not dog or cat hair would get on it, and I didn’t get a picture!

Before settling in to crochet, I got in a sweaty 4 mile run. 

Summers in the Midwest mean humidity.  Sometimes it can be suffocating, but early in the morning before the blanket of humidity really sets in, it feels good.  I can feel my pores opening, my muscles relaxing, my lungs fully expanding as I take in the deep breaths of moist air.

There was just a hint of humidity yesterday morning and it felt really good.  I love the sweat I get from exercising in humidity. Talk about detoxing.

I had a nice sheen going and felt a little nauseous, so the toxins were movin’ yesterday morning.  That’s what I tell myself anyway (I was probably a little over-heated and needed some water)

After taking some big gulps of ice cold water, I leashed up the girls and we walked a little over a mile.

Meals

Meal #1: Smoothie: 1/2 cup almond milk, a frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, one scoop protein powder, large handful spinach

Meal #2: Pancakes (1/2 cup gluten free oats ground into flour, 1/2 cup egg whites, cinnamon), topped with peanut butter and honey

Wax On Wax Off

Yesterday started off with a three mile run.  It felt good. My hips are a little sore this morning, but the three miles was easier than the two miles the previous day so it’s just a matter of my body adjusting to daily runs again.

It sure feels good to run. It really sets my day up to be a good one.

After I ran, I leashed up the girls and took them for a one mile walk.

Next up….brazilian wax.  Well, shower then brazilian wax!

There were a lot of good things that came out of doing that figure competition last year, like all the new friendships, knowing what I am capable of and BRAZILIAN WAXES. I love them.

I don’t love the pain of getting them, but the result makes it worth it.  I can remember when the craze started and everyone was getting waxed and I thought…No way, uh huh, why would anyone do that? I will NEVER get a wax!

Well, now I’m an every 6-week wax girl.

I spent the rest of the day working on a blanket for a new baby girl we have in the family and we had a meeting regarding the group home.

One thing about group homes, there is A LOT of paperwork and a lot of meetings!

Meals

Meal #1: Shake: 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, one frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, one scoop chocolate protein powder, large handful of spinach
