Protect Those Legs

Hi Friends!

I’m still here and still boring.

Justin says he doesn’t know what is going in my life because I never blog, so I thought I would catch everyone up.

My knee is back to normal! Hallelujah!

If you follow me on Instagram (@karatenurse) or Twitter (@karateRN) or Pinterest (Stacy Palmer Beach) or if we are Facebook friends, then you are stalking me and have probably seen this, but a couple of weeks ago, I made Pad Thai (I can’t believe I didn’t post about it since it was before Butternut Squash Soup).  It was soooo good and super easy.  If you like Pad Thai, I highly recommend making this!

I followed the recipe exactly except I doubled the sauce, added one whole tablespoon of Sriracha and added carrots.  Oh, since our hot water has to be set to a certain temperature, because we are a Group Home, I had to boil water to let the noodles soak.

Go make it. It’s delicious.

Workouts

I rested, due to straining my knee, for a full two weeks, with the exception of two days when I did the spin bike and lifted some weights.  After that second day (Tuesday), my knee was swollen so I backed off again and didn’t do anything until Saturday.

Weekends are such big workout events these days since the KC Diva group was formed.  Saturday it was just me and another girl at the track.  We did a low impact stairs and track workout as I was still a little nervous to go all out with my knee and she was having asthma issues.

Sunday, I met up with the whole KC Diva group.

A photographer friend came out and took pictures and then we worked out!  I’m in the center, back row with the firecracker hair.

Monday, I started the day with 30 minutes on the elliptical and then finished with one round of tabata on the spin bike.  Later in the day, I picked up some new running shoes and compression socks!

Tuesday, yesterday, I started with 15 minutes on the elliptical and finished with two rounds of tabata on the spin bike.

Then, I headed right into the weight room.

Workout

Man, the second I start pedaling on that spin bike, I start pouring sweat.  It is crazy.  I do the tabatas by resistance not speed.  So, during the 20 seconds of work, I tighten the resistance to as hard as I can handle and then I take it all the way down during the rest.

Yesterday evening, I met back up with some girls and we did more stairs and cardio.

I am doing whatever it takes to protect my legs.  I have never had a knee injury before and it scared me.  I am now stretching, foam rolling, wearing compression socks and new shoes.  Hopefully, my legs will thank me!

Justin and “the kids” are all doing great.  Justin’s been in that black track suit for about a week now, Sara’s allergies are finally under control with the help of medication, Brutis is still a bully and Piper is still sassy!

  1. how do compression socks help...I feel your pain literally about injury! I just gave myself a stress fracture from running...so not fun

    1. Basically, they give the veins in our legs a little help. This is my first pair and I have only wore them once, but I am a fan. They prevent blood from pooling around your ankles by providing a little compression around your calves, therefore increasing the pressure and keeping things moving upward! Patients have been wearing them in hospitals forever to prevent swelling and blood clots.

      Kind of the same reason I put my legs up a wall after a long run, but I don't always have time to do this. By wearing these compression sleeves while running or exercising and for about an hour or so after, they do the job for me.

  2. I named "Brutus" and you are spelling it wrong. I don't care if the vet thinks it's Brutis. Spell check even thinks Brutis is wrong.

  3. I have had some serious shin splints since I started sprinting. I have been thinking that I need to get some compression's to wear during them. That picture is freaking awesome! I love it!

    1. I read some more about compression sleeves/socks yesterday and a couple of articles mentioned that they helped with shin splints! Good luck and hope those get better!
