We’re Not Done

You think we’re done with turkey? Not yet.

We have really enjoyed having turkey in the refrigerator ready to eat whenever we are ready.  So, Justin made another one!  He brined it over night again, stuffed it with aromatics and it cooked for four and half hours yesterday, filling our home with yummy smells once again!

I didn’t workout yesterday.  Instead, I got an early start to the day and cleaned our closet!  I wish I would have been brave enough to take a before picture, but let me just tell you…you couldn’t see the floor!  And the dresser at the end of our closet was piled high!

I should probably explain the sign that is so huge it can actually sit on the shelves on each each of the closet!  When I left my 8-5 job almost 9 years ago, they threw a surprise going away party for me and made this sign that everyone signed.  I was so appreciative and loved it so much, I kept it.  I think I can let it go now.

So, I took a close up picture and will be putting it out with the trash this week.

We need a new closet arrangement pretty bad but for now, we are working with the canvas bins you see on the shelves.  (don’t you just want to straighten those hangers…it’s all I can look at now)

They work really great for pants, shorts, swim suits, sports bras and sweaters and then the dresser hold all our under garments.

At the other end of the closet I hung my purses and scarves.  I need to grab some more command hooks for purses because I still have several sitting in a pile and I don’t think I should be hanging them three deep on those command hooks!

I love this over the door organizer I bought form OpenSky.com.  I wanted to give you the link but it’s already sold out.  Here it is at Amazon.com.  I paid $22 for it, so it’s too bad that it’s not at OpenSky any more!

I still have some work to do in there but I am feeling much better about our closet.  We have a couple of bags of stuff for goodwill too.

It took me pretty much all day to clean that closet!  Justin and I went through everything in there and did the whole keep, donate or trash thing.

My next organizing groove needs to be  getting my yarn situation under control.  It’s a mess!

Meal #2, 3 and 4: Turkey Pot pie.  Evidently I was in a Pot Pie kind of mood.  I think it’s the cold temps in Kansas City have me going for warm food.

I snacked on some turkey in the late afternoon but didn’t have a good meal for dinner. My sister, Autumn, and I went over to my Uncle’s where my Mom and Stepdad were because they were thinking it would be Grandpa’s last night. 

I was pretty tired by the time we got home and went to bed pretty early.

Get Back To It

It felt good to get back to our routine yesterday.  After four days at home with everyone, we all needed a break! ha!

I started the day at the gym.  Boy, it was hard to leave my warm, cozy home.  It was 20 degrees yesterday morning!  I am thankful for heated seats and steering wheels!

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the AMT.  I really like that little combo.  Switching machines half way through the hour keeps me from getting bored.

Sara and Piper are still free feeders and Katy eats her prescription meal twice a day. Katy could care less about her old food.  It boggles my mind!

Sometimes I feel sorry for Sara and Piper, though, because while Katy eats they sit and stare at her thinking she is getting a special treat.

I try to have a no one on the rug except for Katy rule while she eats, but somehow Sara wiggles her way onto it everyday!

In other news, I got almost ALL of my Christmas shopping done yesterday by taking advantage of Cyber Monday! *high five*

I always use the “something for YOU, something for ME” rule while Christmas shopping!  It’s so much more fun!  Who just wants to buy for others, BOR-ING! ha!

Just kidding. I love buying for other people!  I got some really great gifts yesterday and am so excited to give them to my family and friends!

I usually don’t get so many gifts bought so early.  I hope I don’t spill the beans!

Sunday

I just watched movies and crocheted all day.  If there was an award for movie watching or crocheting, I would definitely win first place!  I have those two things nailed down.  It takes a lot of focus to go all day, but that’s what I’m about, focus.

I would also win first place in avoiding all laundry and anything to do with cleaning my house.  Don’t even try to compete, I would smoke you all!

Ugh, yeah, my crust did NOT turn out for my pot pies.  Not enough butter or water.  It was a crumbling, floury mess.  I added more butter to the top after it came out of the oven along with some salt and it tasted good but it wasn’t pretty!

Spin Class

It’s Sunday morning. The last day of the four day weekend. While I enjoy four day weekends, I look forward to getting back to our routine tomorrow. And it’s Cyber Monday! I hope there are some good deals.

Yesterday started with a spin class at the gym.  Like I said in yesterday’s post, I haven’t taken a spin class in probably six years, but I used to love them. I still love them!  It was brutal but awesome.  Spin classes are no joke.  My legs felt like jelly! I can’t wait to do another one!

As anticipated, my lady parts are pretty sore this morning. TMI. But, in case you have never done one and think you might, I need to warn you!  You are welcome.

My plan was to lift weights when I got home but I think I shocked my system with that spin class.  All I felt like doing was eating and resting!

Yesterday was another movie marathon day while crocheting. All the same movies were played and I enjoyed them just as much as the day before (27 Dresses, Devil Wears Prada, Legally Blonde)!

Food Slicer!

Good Morning!  Four day weekends always get me all confused on what day it is.  It feels like Sunday!

Yesterday I started off doing the usual: drinking coffee, editing pictures and blogging.  While doing the usual, a friend that lives out of town and I starting chatting via Facebook and come to find out she was in town!  I asked if she wanted to meet at the Y for some treadmill talk and she said she’d be there in 15 minutes! Yes!

This is us post TWO HOUR workout.  We hopped on side by side AMT’s and chatted away for an hour!  Neither of us were ready to be done yet so we decided to do a step class.  It was ridiculous!  The instructor had us turning and shuffling all over that step.  Alison and I were so lost!  We had fun though and we worked our butts off trying to keep up so we got a good workout!

She is a personal trainer and a yoga instructor (and a Mom and a military wife) so she doesn’t have a lot of free time to take group exercise classes.  She had fun and we decided to meet back up this morning for the spin class!  I haven’t taken a spin class in probably 6 years.  I used to love them so I’m looking forward to it (I’m not looking forward to the sore crouch/butt I’m going to have tomorrow though!)

I definitely did not eat enough yesterday!

When I got home from catching up with Alison, I was starving!

I skipped right over breakfast food and right into the last of the butternut squash, chicken sausage and broccoli:

Then I took a TWO HOUR nap!

I felt totally wiped out!

I woke up starving but nothing sounded good, so I ate some gluten free crackers and garlic and herb cheese.

After watching a couple of movies, it was time to eat again.

Remember that food slicer that I wanted from QVC?  I bought it!  It made making this salad so easy.  I sliced up all my onion, bell pepper, cucumber and olives in seconds and I did extra so anytime I want a salad, the hard part is already done!

I really like this food slicer. Let me take you on a tour.

1. It comes with the slicer, a hopper for slicing small food (like olives, garlic, etc), a large food hand guard,and a plastic tub with lid in case you want to chop up food and store it for later or just store all the accessories in it.

2. On the back of the slicer are two dials.

One adjust the thickness of the big blade.  I like my red onion sliced super thin for salads, but red bell pepper a little thicker.  It was so easy to find the perfect thickness with this slicer.  There are eight different thicknesses!

The other dial allows you to pop up either one row (julienne) or two rows (chop) of small blades.

3. The hopper for small food items is awesome!  I packed it full of black and green olives and in seconds I had perfectly sliced olives!

It was a breeze to clean up too! It costs $29.76 plus $6.97 s/h.  I think it is worth it!  I slice and chop a lot of food so I see myself reaching for this time and time again.

So there you have it. The perfect food slicer!  Obviously, QVC has no idea who I am or that  I am bragging about their product.  I just wanted to pass along a product I think is worth purchasing.

After my salad, I went back to watching movies and getting myself focused on the Spring competition season.  The first show I want to do is about 20 weeks away.  I got my food log all mapped out using the 16 week carb cycle plan Diana gave me last year. (I only mapped out 16 weeks, because I’m sure I’ll end up with Diana before long but I at least wanted to get myself in the mind set!)

I am still trying to decide what to do about working with Diana.  After talking with Justin, we just don’t think it is financially responsible for us to fork over the sum of money it costs to do one on one training this time around.  So, I’m thinking I’ll go online with her.  I tossed around the idea of finding a cheaper coach, but I adore Diana.  I trust her. She knows me.  I think going online will be a good challenge for me.  Last year, I learned a lot about myself and I think I’ll learn even more if I cut the strings a little looser this time around.  Scaaaary!

What are your feelings about an online comp prep trainer versus one on one training?

Getting back to food. I totally forgot to eat anything else and at 10:30pm Justin reminded me that we didn’t eat dinner. Suddenly I was starving and ate more cheese and crackers!  Ugh, I don’t think that’s part of my food plan! ha!

Thanksgiving 2011

Happy Black Friday!  Is everyone out shopping?  Or finally home after an all nighter?

Like I said yesterday, I don’t have the personality for Black Friday, I’m more of a cyber Monday girl.  I am excited for everyone else though.  My Facebook newsfeed was blowing up with talk about everyone heading out to start their shopping.  Of course, I’m just now reading them and they were posted 7 hours ago, while I was snuggled into bed SLEEPING!

Yesterday’s Workout

I started Thanksgiving day with a workout!  I did 20 minutes on the elliptical with the incline set at 20 and the resistance at 10.  Then I did:

3 sets of:

  • flat bench
  • triceps: french press
  • lat pull downs
  • bicep curls with dumb bells
  • stationary lunge with lateral shoulder raise
  • stationary lunge with front shoulder raise
  • step ups

Then I hopped back on the elliptical for another 20 minutes with the incline and resistance set the same as above.

Yesterday’s Meals

Meal #1: I was so hot after working out, a cold, thick, chocolate protein powder, banana, strawberry, almond milk smoothie sounded perfect!

We were exhausted by the end of the night.  It was such a fun day! 

I am now realizing, after looking through the pictures, that I had everything to fix a salad and totally forgot to put it out!

My brother, James (the tallest one in above picture), told us that he has decided to compete in a bodybuilding competition in 2012! I am so excited for him.  We will both be doing the same show in April!
