30,240 Minutes

Whoa!  It’s been a couple minutes since I posted in the ol’ blog.

Like 30,240 minutes!

I seem to be on a once-a-month blogging schedule and my only excuse is we have had a fun and busy month (once again)! I feel like I said that last time I posted.  We have had something going on pretty much every weekend of the summer and it’s been a blast!

I woke up this morning, the middle of August, to a cool, crisp, chill in the air.  I love living in the Midwest and having seasons.  I love that just as kids start going back to school, and everyone has had just about enough of the heat, Mother Nature throws in a Fall-like day.

It’s like a practice day.

Kansas City has only had a hand full of weeks with super hot temps but none-the-less everyone is itching for Fall.  I love the energy that having seasons creates.  It’s almost time to change our uniform to leggings/tunics/boots again, start eating and drinking everything pumpkin, and cooking soup.

But Summer isn’t over yet, Folks!

I love Summer and the heat and humidity.  I want to hang on to the longer days of sunlight just for a bit more.

And our long walks with the girls and at the nature sanctuary.

You know by now

that when I get into something, I GET IN.  Like all the way in.  Just plug my nose and jump…get my hair wet…..let my mascara from yesterday run…all the way in.

So, I am WAY in on coloring and making cards.  But I don’t just want to make cards.  Now I want to print on t-shirts, pouches, magnets, and tea towels.  Whatever sits still for too long and has a flat surface, I want to print on it!

I was ready to buy a sublimation printer and heat press for t-shirts, then a heat press for mugs, then a button machine to make magnets.

I’m ready to turn our spare bedroom into a print factory.

I didn’t.

I have to listen to my voice of reason (Justin).  Voice-of-Reason says I haven’t sold enough cards to buy anything else.  (I’m taking applications for a Voice of Reason.)

I can get a little crazy with my “hobbies”.  So, I know it’s Justin’s job to dig his feet in and remind me that I actually have a job and I actually have to work and that these other things are actually hobbies.

I just want to color and own a heat press. (or a button machine)

Besides coloring.

There has been work.  And a lot of it.  It’s been a tougher than normal summer with work and that’s probably why I’ve been covering my feelings with a thick, comfy blanket of my hobbies.  Being a care taker for a living is not for the faint of heart or the weak.  Good thing we have big, strong hearts (and each other).

Besides work.

My sister, Vann, was a vendor at the Strawberry Swing.  I showed up to support the biz along with Chaz and Becky (and Sawyer).  If you live in Kansas City, this craft fair is super neat and worth checking out.  Also, Vann’s necklaces, headbands and key chains are also super neat and worth checking out!

My brother, Benny turned 30!  We celebrated at Top Golf.  Again, if you live in Kansas City (or any where else, there are a lot of them), this was so fun and I highly recommend checking it out.  Even if you are not a golfer.

Our friends, Brad and Sarah, visited from San Diego.

We stayed out way past our bed time every night they were in town.

There was shuffle board.

A serious game of H.O.R.S.E.

And lots of eating and family!  We love their family.  They always welcome us right in and share their time with Brad and Sarah.

That weekend was also our….

17th Wedding Anniversary!

When we showed up at Brad’s Mom’s house for a BBQ, she had hired a professional photographer to take their family photos.  Since it was our Anniversary, she asked if we wanted to jump in and have some pictures taken as well!

How could we say no?!  I can’t remember the last time Justin and I had professional pictures taken of the two of us, so our 17th Anniversary was the perfect day to do it.

Whew, we are all caught up!

Oh, one more thing!

Justin and I started training with Elroy Carr at Full Circle Athletic Development.  We both LOVE it!  I’ll share more about that in another post.  This one is getting way too long!

Lots of Stuff

Hi Friends!

003 - Copy

Yikes, it’s been a whole month.

It’s been a busy whole month over here at the Beach house.

Summer is in full swing. Hot. Sweaty. Rainy.  Kansas City is like a steam room these days.  I love it. I also don’t have to work outside or even go outside unless I choose.

Since we last talked, I decided to open my Etsy store, Strawberry Squirl, back up and sell greeting cards! (see sidebar to start shopping!)

I am also going to sell stickers of the same designs and eventually move into anything else I can find to print on!

About  a year ago, in place of crocheting, I started coloring with sharpies when I got bored and eventually had a whole pile of these little colorful pictures.

I love them so I thought about framing them to put in the house some where and then I thought what a pretty card they would make.

I would love to receive a colorful, happy card!

So, I bought some cardstock and started printing!

They are bright and cheerful.

And each one has a little positive message.

I am going back and forth between printing on glossy card stock or matte cardstock.

I did both and really like both. So that doesn’t help.

Here are some of the stickers.

I bought colorful envelopes and clear cello bags for packaging.  I felt very legit and professional when those came in!

I also don’t know what to call them.   Illustrations? Drawings? Pictures?

Whatever you call them, I am adding new ones each month to my Etsy shop, so if you don’t see something you like, keep checking back!

In other news

My SIL, Sarah, came in town.

We had Fourth of July fun at my Mom’s.  Here is my Uncle Lynnwood, Justin, James (brother) and Tom (stepdad).

Our friends Chris, Jen and girls came in town from San Francisco. Chris played at the Westport Saloon during their visit and all his friends from KC came out in support. It was a great night!

My brother, Benny, got married!

We celebrated my Mom’s birthday.

It’s been a fun and busy month filled with lots of family and friends.   That’s a pretty good way to spend out time, if you ask me!

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Things I’m Loving Friday

Today I’m linking up with Heather over at Life in Leggings.

Things I’m Loving or Friday Favorites, however you want to say it, here are mine:

I love yogurt, fruit and granola!

This morning it was plain greek yogurt with peaches and granola.

I love my planner!

Which goes right along with my love of paper, markers and stickers!  I love reading blogs about planners and now watching videos where people decorate their planners. (I wish I was kidding)

I also wish I was kidding when I tell you I bought stickers from the following etsy vendors and when they arrive, I am going to kiss the mail person and decorate the crap out of my planner (even more than I already have).  It might take all day.  I might run out of stickers.  Or paper.

It’s Planning Time

The Pretty Planner

Planner Candy

The Planner Junkie Inc

Sweet Kawaii Design

Here are four of my fav blogs because I KNOW you want to get in on this with me! (click on their logo to go to their blog).  There are so many other great ones out there and I have spent  an obsceeeene about of time reading these beautiful blogs.

Ugh. There is so much creativity.  It will make your hands twitch to color something and you will, for sure, want a new full set of Sharpies before the day ends.

My Grandpa Palmer is who gave me my love for pens.  He LOVED collecting pens.

He also loved Hobby Lobby.

I remember going to Hobby Lobby with him and my Grandma and I could feel the excited energy wafting off them.  Walking in to a store like that, as a kid, where things are displayed clear to the ceiling.  There’s no going back from that feeling.

I can remember looking up with wide eyes and taking it all in with excitement.  There is just so much to see!  Then my Grandpa bought me a high-back, wicker chair with a tropical cushion, that was high on a shelf against the wall by the entrance and exit doors, and my love for that store was sealed.  I loved that darn chair.  I still had it when I moved out at 18 years old!

It’s for those same feelings that I love Bed, Bath and Beyond (and Hobby Lobby) as an adult.  There is something to be said, advertising/display people, about the emotions created when you walk in to a store with merchandise positioned high.

It makes you feel like a kid to look up and feel excited and who doesn’t want to feel like a kid or be excited?!  Those are some strong shopping emotions if I do say so myself and they get me. I’ll buy that red ladle that I have to get a sales associate, with a ladder, to get down for me. Every time.

My love of Hobby Lobby as a kid could also have been because it sounds like Holly Hobbie and I had mad love for Holly Hobbie!  Like a whole bedroom decorated with that theme and maybe a lunch box.

I also love the book I’m reading.

Man, it’s a good one.  If you are feeling like you need to establish a new routine but keep getting sucked back in to your old one, this is a good read for you!

I love Step Ups!

I did this workout on Wednesday.  Step ups totally zap my breath but they are the one exercise that shave down my hips and outer thigh.  So I love them for that.

There is also this one that was a good one.

And this one…

In conclusion…

I love yogurt parfaits.

I love my planner.

I love markers, paper and stickers.

I love to read blogs and watch videos of people decorating their planners.

I love my Grandpa.

I love Hobby Lobby.

I love Bed, Bath, Beyond.

I love stores that display their merchandise where I have to look up.

I love the book I’m reading, The Power of Habit

I love step ups.

I think I also love coffee and have had too much of it.

Happy Friday, Friends!  I hope YOUR day is full of everything and everyone YOU love!
